I agree with Keith. I personally have only used the Aimpoint but read a lot and asked a ton of people that are well versed a lot of questions before purchasing my Aimpoint. I have heard of EOTech failures but have almost never heard of the same with Aimpoints. The Aimpoints also use very little battery so you can leave them on for months and even years without draining them to the point of failure.

Melissa ... if you want to see the Aimpoint and try it out let me know.

that is a good site picture. :) mueller makes good ones for the money too. the $200 burris is also good alternative to spending over twice as much on eotech or aimpoint.
Yeah, I'm still thinking about that Burris. I read on AR15.com that the Mueller is made in China though. For my uses, I don't see paying a whole lot for a sight.

Thanks for the offer, Vol. I may take you up on that.

yeah that's the thing about those sights. they are overpriced for what they are. they do have the "cool factor" though lol. if i were looking for one right now, i'd probably opt for the burris. i like the eotechs, just not their price lol

being made in china, the meuller is probably made out of lead and asbestos! lol ;)

True! They've already tried to poison our dogs and our kids. Now they are starting on adults! LOL

The key factor is what your going to be doing with it. If your putting it on a safe queen AR than most any sight will probably do. But I can safely say that if your putting it on a gun thats going to be shot and ran hard, the burris and the other "cheaper" optics will fail. Buy once cry once.

I'm not excited, just hate seeing incorrect info being passed along.
Hi Mvician... We have a growing base of users and a lot of them don't know you, yet...

Maybe you could give us some guidance with your thoughts about the sights mentioned above?

Thanks!

I went through the same process. Honestly, for our purposes (mine pretty much same as yours) we really don't need an optic anyway. If money is a concern at all I would skip it completely and just stick with irons. Personally, irons on a gun that might be used for defense at some point make more sense than a cheap optic. Now, there might be less expensive models that aren't classified as cheap but I wanted only the best or nothing at all. YMMV.

i don't have to have an Aimpoint or Eotech, but I don't want a POS on my rifle either.

I went to see the Trijicon reflex sight that the guy offered for $200 and I was pretty impressed with it. It didn't use batteries and had tritium in it so that it was also a night sight. He only had the handle mount, so I would have to buy a mount. Still not convinced that this would be the best use of $200 though. I like the idea of not having to buy batteries, but don't like the the idea of the tritium eventually going dim. I guess I need to go to Clydes and look at a bunch of different sights.

yeah i read some reviews on trijicon reflex that said the amber reticle disappears in bright daylight. just google the sights you're interested in and read people's feedback. there's a lot of good info on various forums. i'd be surprised if you couldn't find a brand new one for $200 that's not a POS. like with any product, you pay extra for the name with some brands of sight makers. :)

for example, i just picked up a bushnell trphy red dot rifle sight for a relative from a buddy for $30. it works great, and has good reviews online. bushell had to stop making it because trijicon threatened to sue for patent infringement because it too closely resembles their acogs lol. so it was only made for 2 years.

I walked the sight all over the range and outside (very sunny day) and the dot was always there and bright enough. We put it on a range AR and it had a good open sight picture like the Eotech. The one thing I didn't like was that it was more gray than black. Doesn't fit with my color scheme. LOL! I just want to get the best sight I can for about $200.

cool lol. i just read some reviews online that mention that issue, never actually peered though one lol. like i said, just google the different sights, including that $200 burris one, see how folks like them. i'm sure you;ll find something you like (in the color scheme that you find "pretty" LOL :) )

The Trij is probably going to be the best optic in that price range your going to find. The only problem I found withthem is their big, and the darker lens sucks for low/no light shooting. If neither of those things matter than it'll probably be a great optic for you.

I went by Clydes today to look at optics and lights. They had the Burris Fastfire and it was tiny...about the size you'd put on a handgun. Looked at an Aimpoint Micro T-1...very nice, but pricey. I'm still looking for a good deal and thinking.

Ever think about one of the Primary Arms clones?

http://www.primaryarms.com/category.sc?categoryId=398

They have some nice clones of the AimPoint sights...
Yeah, I've looked at their Micro T-1 clone and reflex sight. On their web site...not in person. Really, they would probably be as good as I would ever need for them to be.

Update: I just read that the Primary Arms sights are made in China. That's a no-go.

Well, I finally pulled the trigger and bought a used Trijicon and mount from ar15.com. The guy says that he mounted the sight and then bought an ACOG. So, I'm expecting a sight that is NIB condition. It kind of looks like it is on a little railroad car. I did pay a little more than $200, but after looking at my options and where those sight were made, I decided to kick in a little more money and get something made in the USA. I like that it doesn't need batteries and the tritium is guaranteed for 15 years. I really wanted an Eotech, but the battery life was a no-go. http://www.trijicon.com/user/parts/products1.cfm?partid=112
