Is $299 a good price for a sliver Aimpoint Micro R-1

With it being silver, I don't know that I would put it on my AR. Could it safely be painted or disguised in some way?

Part of me says buy it because it's an Aimpoint. Then the other part says do you really need an expensive sight on a range toy/HD gun? Maybe I should buy an inexpensive Aimpoint clone to see if I like that style of sight.

The price is excellent.

It could be painted but I would probably make it look ghetto myself.

Is it necessary? No. Irons are fine for a range or HD gun. Red dots are cool though. I have the same sight but in black. I paid more than that and I "knew a guy".

agreed. ;)

if i were to buy a CQC sight, i would go with eotech. you can co witness the irons if the battery dies. the xps-2's are sweet. :)

peeping through a sight such as an aimpoint, or acog, in a CQC situation severely limits your field of vision. that's another reason i like eotechs.
OK, who makes a decent Eotech clone? I just can't justify paying that much for a sight.

the trijicon "eotech clones" are cheaper. check out opticsplanet.com, just bought an eotech off there for a relative. great prices and arrives in 2-3 days.
Thanks, Don Glock. A guy at my range was trying to sell me a Trijicon for $200....don't remember the model though.

no prob :)

here's a brand new burris one for $200:

by the way, that aimpoint on midwayusa you're looking at is no longer available. it was a limited run lol :)
I know...you snooze, you lose. Didn't really want silver....

That Burris got good reviews on optics planet. How would you mount it? I don't have a carry handle and my BUIS are not flip up.

It mounts right on your top rail (where the handle would be lol)

peeping through a sight?????????

nothing to get excited about

although acogs were designed with the BAC in consideration, they don't work well for both eyes open aiming. nor do they co-witness.

With the Burris sight, would I want to co-witness? 1/3?

I've been thinking about this some more. Instead of a carry handle, what do ya'll think about replacing my Daniel Defense BUIS with flip up sights so that I don't have to co-witness unless I just want to? Magpul or Troy flip ups?

Been looking at these Troy flip up sights. http://troyind.com/%20/battlesights/troy-battlesight-rear-di-optic-aperture-doa-folding They also have a setting for up to 500 meters. I don't think I can even see 500 meters. LOL!

I like it. Good looking rear BUIS. $119.00 is up there but I've heard good things about TROY.

Found one on eBay for $96 delivered. I don't believe I'll let that one get away. :) I would have had to pay close to that for a good carry handle if I had gone that route.
WOW! Yeah, I'd jump on that. Congrats on the good find.
I'm not excited, just hate seeing incorrect info being passed along.

If I'm reading your post correct, you don't even have any of the sights you are talking about, do you?

What are your experiences with an ACOG, Aimpoint, and EOTech?

so, you followup your original post with an even more insulting one. nice work! ;)

i have experience with all the above mentioned. i don't offer opinions on products that i don't have experience with. you certainly can offer a differing opinion--that's what forums are for. however, you should find a less offensive manner in which to do it ;)

so far, you haven't offered your opinion as to why you think i'm wrong. you've simply attempted to insult me because you believe i'm wrong.

this isn't GT or Arfcom. folks are nice and friendly here, my friend. we don't insult eachother, or make unfounded allegations here. :)

Just where did I insult you or make an unfounded allegation?

i'm not going to continue to encourage your trolling ;)
In my experience if your going to go with an optic stick with Aimpoint. We have seen a higher failure rate with eotechs especially in cold weather. one Match last winter we had IIRC 3 fail in one day.

There have been reports from LEO agencies about loosing zero and BS. When it comes to optics you get what you pay for. The cheap ones are going to have higher rates of battery drain and will not withstand the abuse that a AP or TRIJ will take.

IMO an AP on a Larue QD mount is one of the best choices you can go with,
