Hello all, I am new to this forum and new to Glocks. I have a G17C Gen 3 and just acquired a G20 Gen 3.
I have not shot the G20 yet as it is in transit which with our Can gun laws might take about two weeks.
My new G20 has been shot 50 times since new. The original owner said he shot 180's but included two boxes of buffalo bore 220's as he was going to be trapping in the Yukon, but his plans changed so he sold it to me.
I have read various opinions on the net regarding changing out the factory recoil spring to a heavy duty one to protect the frame and slide from possible damage from hot heavy loads.
My intentions are to shoot lighter standard range loads for target practice and to use the heavy BB220's for home protection from big harry creatures. Will the factory G20 spring handle a couple of dozen rounds of the big powerful ammo through occasional use without any damage to the slide or frame? I will not be using reloaded or reloading any ammo. Just wishing for the facts here to put my mind at ease on my new pistol...thanks all.

I tend to stay with the factory spring knowing that it will likely wear a bit quicker with the hotter loads (maybe 3,000rds vs. 5,000).

I recently decided to forgo the hotter round in 10mm for hairy creatures for Underwood's version of Lehigh XtremePenetrator. Larger cavity than flat nose but still has 36" of penetration in gel from a G29. And as 22Plinkster demonstrated, it'll go through bullet proof glass.

The guys at Underwood were extremely helpful, provided tons of education on bullets and their ballistics.

3,000-5,000rds....? I doubt I will ever shoot more than 500 rounds through the complete ownership of this G20 and I have only 40 rounds of Buffalo Bore in total to use....

I have read that many people have shot Buffalo Bore HC 220's in their G20's without any issues what so ever. However I will use a normal 180 for range plinking and keep the 220's - just in case a 'need' arises...Thanks for the kind comments..!
