This is a good example of why I suggest sticking with factory RSAs.

And not to be the old, uncool guy but please refrain from the profanity. Some sites are cool with it. This one isn't so much. Many of us have kids constantly trying to read over our shoulders. I intentionally steer clear of sites I know to be wide open when my kid is around.

Sucks what happened to your gun though. Was the damage done by the spring coming apart or from you man handling it to get it off?

 

Please except my apollogy brotha wont happen again, def didnt mean to offend anyone. One of them days I guess. I don't believe I did the frame damage. The screw driver never touched the frame. I baby the crap outta my guns and I was as gentle as possible when trying to remove the slide. It looks like it was done by the little piece of steel that sits flush on the barrel.

 

You can try to get Rockyourglock to do something but I'd say Good Luck on that. GLOCK isn't going to do anything for you with the aftermarket spring. Well, maybe they will being a great customer service oriented company but I wouldn't start there.

Damage to your frame doesn't look too bad... I'd probably smooth out the marks with a Dremmel tool and be good to go...

I'm another Glock RSA user... Glock's stuff is bulletproof and it works... If it doesn't work, they hack at it and release newer products until they fix it...

If you need to use third party spring for some reason, try Wolff springs... They're what the pros use when they need to change springs...

 

Totally agree with jb. I only use stock Glock parts in my handguns. I have seen more failures with aftermarket stuff when you get into the higher pressure calibers such as the .40.

 

I put one spring in, Glock factory when I target shoot. And another, Glock factory when I carry. Both factory weight of 17lb.

I read somewhere that Glock said change them every 1,000-1,500 rounds but can't remember where, any takers?

 

3,000-5,000 is the average recommendation but plenty of people have gotten RSAs to last much longer. While your practicing with your GLOCK, you'll notice when it starts not functioning correctly. Then it's time to change. If you don't shoot that often, you won't need to change them for a long time.

 

Went to the range yesterday. Fired about 45 rounds of my own reloads in the G19 Gen 4 (6000 rounds total) and started to have FTF's. Light, off center primer strikes. Time to change all the springs! Glock recommends changing @5000 rounds. Changed RSA, striker spring, and trigger spring. Fired 300 more rounds with no issues. I think I will abide by Glocks recommendations since I carry the 19 most every day. But you know this, right? It's The Law !!

 

I don't see how the words you used could be considered cussing. Seems like this group might be a overdoing it a bit.

Went shooting yesterday, everything went smooth as butter (not one FTE or any failures). Got home went to clean my 27 and to my surprise I could not get the slide off.... looked at the front of my little baby glock and the spring is cock eyed and jammed up in the frame. It took me all of about 15 minutes to un jam it using a screw driver (having to compress the spring and really man handle it to separate the frame and slide) I DID NOT notice this when I was shooting. I was using 165 gr EFMJ federal ammo. What in the crap right? And I'm upset because it damaged my frame.. heres some pics, you can see that the steel on the spring and my frame is dented and chiped.. What do you guys think? I got the spring from Rockyourglock.com. What should I do? Do you guys think I am owed anything due to the damage of my frame? Thanks guys.

I don't think you have a leg to stand on as far as getting anyone to repair your gun.

 

Sticking strictly to the firearm problem I would first contact the spring producer. Be straight forward with them and say you thought it was important to contact them about a product they are selling and it's possible having a much more catastrophic outcome in someone elses firearm. Just in case anyone is wondering when it comes to aftermarket parts they have product liability just like Glock does. In this case Glock has none because you chose to change and use an aftermarket part. If indeed the spring maker sold you the part with no warnings of possible failure or only using a specific type of ammo then they should stand behind their product. Whew........

Please do NOT start taking a Dremel tool to your Glock. Send it in......let them magnaflux it if necessary and ensure the slide has not sustained metal stress that can't be seen. Allow them to straighten things out for you. I say these things because over the years I have seen the damage to both people and firearms because the proper attention was not paid. It's free advice so it's worth what you are paying for it. I'm just as sure someone else may say just put a new spring it it and fire away. Your decision, just please think about it long and hard first.......please.

 

Always better to be safe than sorry, but the marks in the frame look to be mostly superficial... We don't have any pictures of the slide, but I'd be surprised if a broken recoil spring damaged it...

Certainly couldn't hurt to call Glock up and ask them about it...

 

I would for sure report this to ROCK OUR GLOCK and since it was a after market part I to believe Glock may do nothing but can always ask, first I would send pics to Rock your glock and talk to them. I hope the helps and please let me know how it helped and how it ends up. BEST WISHES.
