I decided about 4 am to take a break from work and head to Wal-mart to get my wife a birthday card. While there, I decided to take a look at their ammunition. They had tons of Tula ammo in assorted calibers, including .380. Has anyone had any experience with Tula? If so, was it positive or negative. I understand it's made in the same factory that makes Wolf. I've shot Wolf off and on for a long time and have only had issues with their .223 in my Bushmaster, but the ammo was sitting in my garage for over 4 years. The Tula 9mm was cheaper than the Federal target rounds, by like 1.00, but it's still cheaper. I may pick up some 9mm and .380 and just try it, but some other opinions would be nice.

i saw this at my last ammo run, and i stayed away from them. no reason why really, but the federal which was like .80 more.

I saw it and the clerk let me open a box, one look and I said hell no...it was ugly, the bullets were rough and the cases were not consistent looking. For a buck more, just get Federal.

on a side note how do you like the federal ammo in your glock(s)? i tried it in my XD once and the recoil was insane for a 165 grn round in .40. i noticed they load all of there ammo a little hotter then any others. i like the federal in .223 because it helps my rifle function more reliably but in the .40 S&W it was causing the slide to lock back from rediculous recoil.

really? thats interesting. well ive chrono'd other .223 vs federal .223 and the federal was the hottest load. 2930 fps vs an average around 2800 fps with a couple other brands. and just from the feel of the .40 S&W i know it was hotter then the winchester white box i always shoot. both 165 grn. after about 100 rounds of the federal .40 S&W in my XD my hand was hurting..and thats never happened to me shooting .40 before.

my theory is federal wants there ammo to remain reliable being it is a lower quality ammo so they load it hotter. but in the case of my XD it was the cause of the problem. so much recoil that the slide stop was flipping up into the slide notch

yeah i dont recall if its called champion or not but i know its the cheapest federal at walmart. theres the higher quality stuff and then theres the stuff thats usually about a dollar cheaper then winchester white box. the cheap stuff is what im reffering to.

Yeah its the cheap stuff at walmart...ive never had an issue with it, but over at GT its the devil.

I've run a case (or maybe two...) through my Glock and M&P. It's rebranded Wolf. I'd buy it again at a good price, I think I paid $190 delivered for my case, and this was before 9mm prices when way down.

lol yeah i love it in .223 like i said but i dont like it in my experience in my handguns. i had the slide lock back with another round still in the magazine about 6 times out of 100 rounds with my XD which had about 1000 rounds of winchester white box through it at the time with zero malfunctions.

I buy the Federal (red box) from WalMart, for shooting at the range, it works great and at $0.209 a shot, it is about the cheapest 9mm ammo I can find. My Glock and Sig P250 seem to like it, so I keep buying it and my wife's HK USP 40 likes it too.

That's why I only bought 100 rounds, even after the reviews I read at Cheaperthandirt.com, they seemed to mostly be positive. 1.00 more isn't too bad for brass ammo, and I'd most likely only buy more Tula if Wally World is out of Federal. I still need to shoot the Tula and I have some Ranger FMJ's too along with 200 rounds of Federal, we'll see what performs better and stick with that, aside from the Rangers, they're pricey for FMJ's.

I have used some....no problems....and I just recently bought 3,000 Tula small pistol primers....they work just fine.

The cheap Federal ammo works fine for plinking in my G19. I have a concern with using steel case ammo rather than brass in the long term wear issues it may have. I also prefer US made ammo (in my Austrian-made Gun).

Tried the 9mm for practice. Seemed to be okay. But not for leaving loaded in magazines.
