not exactly a strip search, as they only removed his shirt.

suicide bombers come in all forms. young children are often used for such, as they are less likely to raise suspicion.

however, TSA should have used a little tact and done that in private, rather than in front of the whole airport.

This one is a bit extreme. Was just reading an article on Yahoo today about all the complaints TSA is generating. They let many people that should probably be checked, go by for fear of "racial profiling" and then go the full 9 yrds with old men (most of whom are WW2 vets) and others that are very low on the suspect list. Needs some ...."adjustment".

That's One of my complaints. Then there is the fact that the TSA agents are often scumbags, some of which have past records. Then add to that the fact that we can't profile here for fear of hurting someone's feelings, so we give people that could possibly pose a threat a pass while harassing granny and little children. The new pat down procedures are nothing but excuses to touch people, something I'm not very fond of. Something about people violating my personal space. When it comes to my children, it goes to a whole other level.

Dead on as always Don!
thank you my friend lol :)

i understand that youtube video will stir up an emotional "knee jerk" reaction in many folks, especially the ones with kids.

however, it is the TSA agents jobs to take a search a step further if metal detectors keep going off (and that can be for a million different reasons). it's not something they enjoy doing, but it is their job.

to that same effect, there are rules of conduct in place for them to conduct this sort of search in a more private setting, and these agents choosing to disregard that is bad judgment and unprofessional.

Documentation? Numbers with records?

---

The American people can stop this. Boycott air travel until the airlines create enough politcal pressure for airports to dump TSA. Then only fly in and out of airports not using TSA.

Finally, dump the people responsible for such policies out of office.

Don, if it were simply because the metal detector kept going off it would be one thing but they are now giving flyers a choice. Go through the newer screenings that basically show your nude body or get groped by someone who should not be allowed to touch a person in that fashion.

I've seen many TSA agents that would have a hard time getting a job at McDonalds, and it looks like they've eaten there too much as well! Finding someone who hasn't gotten in trouble with the law doesn't mean they are professional enough to carry out that job.

yeah they have the nude scanners at my local airport. made me walk through it too. luckily, i have the body of a greek god

another time they made me walk through that bomb detector that blows air on you, and tests that air for bomb making chemicals. it's a random thing, and doesn't bother me in the least. very minor inconveniences that help insure my flight will not be blown up don't bother me, my friend :)

hey! i recently went through the background check/testing for TSA dept of homeland security when i was looking for work while in college! lol :)

it's extremely thorough, they leave nothing unchecked. however, of course no system is perfect, and invariably a bad apple will slip through here and there. incidentally they offered me a job, but i had found a better paying one by the time they finally called me back (uncle sam moves slow) lol

I'm asking for documentation of your statement concering criminal records.

I'm not disputing the notion that they aren't the cream of the crop, but to make out like they are a bunch of thugs with criminal records just isn't supported; at least not yet.

The problem is not so much with the line livel agents as it is with those setting these policies.

Just like anyplace else, you get good and bad. The people who did what was done in the video did it the wrong way.

I think the policy needs some work and how they treat people. The station, that did this needs to have a review done.

PRIVACY <-----------------------+-----------------------> SECURITY

Which end of the spectrum should we go towards?

For air travel, I personally think we're respecting privacy too much, and that we're not close enough towards the security end of the spectrum. Or else we wouldn't have had that failed airplaine bomber that hid explosives around his private parts. How do you keep someone like that from doing that again? Strip search? Extended pat downs? X-ray scanners?

Or keep to the same kind of airport security that we had pre-9/11?

Still looking to see if anyone knows. What ever it was COULD have been setting off the scanner and been used as probable cause to start the search. Depending upon TSA policy. It also looked like father and son started to follow the TSA person just before the video shut off.

I can't provide you with that documentation and I know it's not right of me to make accusations based off of hearsay and news articles as they are most often incorrect but there is clearly an issue with the TSA, as there always has been. Do I want my flight to be safe, of course, and I'm fine with metal detectors and secondary searches if I set off the detector. I typically fly quite a bit for work when we aren't in a travel restriction so I have a fair amount of experience with different airports and the TSA.

I wouldn't want some perv looking at my wife or my children in what basically amounts to naked pictures, based on the information I have seen and I surely wouldn't want anyone touching them either.

It still looks like at least to me at the very end of the video the guy picks up something that the child may/or may not (the video isn't long enough to show) have had. Also, just before the video cuts off the child and the man appear as if they are going to follow the TSA guy that did the search. Although, if this is the case his escort technique is very sloppy at best this is kinda what it looks like might be happening to me.

Plus if it were something simple say, fingernail clippers or some sort of toy that set off the detector and he was just taking them to the place to mail it home he wouldn't have a big cause for alarm during the escort anyway.
