Larry Vickers discusses the Modern AK.

An AK in 5.56 NATO. Interesting as I've been looking at the AK platform. I could go this route and maintain one caliber however I was looking to get into the larger caliber.

I will be watching the video shortly but would pass on a 5.56 AK. Stick with the larger caliber ... original ... or just get another AR.

EDIT: If that were in 7.62 I would be stoked. I wouldn't bother with the optics, light, etc. though. Again, if you want to hang all that stuff and make it ... well, an AR ... you might as well get an AR.

Agreed, I just thought it was cool. I went to my local gunshop to get my fix today. The owner had just got back from SHOT show. He had the new SCAR Heavy in 7.62 which is something I really want but just can't afford the price tag right now. At over $2200.00 my cost through him, it's out of my range. He had some AKs in my range but I think I'm going to sell my AR and my XD and purchase a better AR, most likely a S&W. I've got plenty of PMags and I've got 5.56 ammo so I think that is the route I'm going to go.

The Aimpoint really does help.

Some people just don't like the AR-15 platform. It's good to have an alternative.

I would like an AK, and I love ARs, I just don't think I want another caliber to keep up with. If I was going to add another rifle caliber, it's probably be .308 in an AR10. :)

30-30. 30.06, .22, 5.56, and a few others is enough to keep up with as it is.
