Call Glock, they will send you another Trigger Mechanism Housing. The problem is the part that is installed on it that defects the casing out of the slide. It hits the bottom left of the spent casing after the round is shot. The tip of it is not angled right. I am guessing it is a Gen 4 19.
One thing I noticed for me, and YMMV. Try a tighter grip with your support hand. People say 60% support hand, 40% trigger hand for grip force. Just try to grip more with your left hand (if you're a right-handed shooter) than your right and see if the casings still hit you in the noggin'.
My 19 doesnt throw the case in my face all the time maybe 3 or 5 cases out of a clip. I think the first thing I will do is call glock like Freemon says. I have had my 19 do this since it was new, however, the last time the case went between my Shooting glasses & gave me a Burn on my face, time to do something or get rid of it. I will give a update after talking with Glock.
I was getting brass to the face about 40% of the time with my G17. I took a polishing wheel and a little compound to the extractor. I just touched the two sides that contact the slide. After doing that I shot 350 rounds and had one piece of brass come back at me. That one piece may not have been the guns fault. That batch of loads the brass was on its 6th reload.
Check the link below. This solved the problem for me and several others.
You must use the spring loaded bearing that is noted near the bottom of the page.
I have installed a new Stainless steel guide rod, new model Wolf extractor & Spring loaded bearing that you MUST use with the wolf extractor, I have not had time yet to make it to the Range but will report later the results. Thanks for all your help & I hope this cures the problem.
Well after shooting 40 Rounds out of my Glock 19 today I had NO cases in my Face, unless things change I would say its fixed, Thanks to everyone with their replys, LBEE
I also have issues with casings hitting me in the face.
Today during my shooting... I took aim, licked my lips, and fired. The casing shot straight back, hit my lips and stuck. I have a burn across both my lips that still hurts (3 hours later). This needs to be fixed. I called Glock and asked them if they could send a part out to me, they said I would have to send my G19 in for 4 to 6 weeks. I can't do that. I will be calling them again tomorrow and seeing if another rep can be more helpful.
I have switched my stock extractor to the one for my caliber from Lone Wolf. Worked excellent on both my gen4 G17 and gen3 G17L.... Good luck, and take care of your lips!
It's well documented that the newer pistols have a MIM extractor. There is a tell tale "wave" in the top surface of the affected extractors. I chose to buy a milled replacement part from Lone Wolf distributors and for @ $20 problem solved.
If you want to ship your pistol back to Glock, they will most surely replace the extractor free of charge, but it will probably be the same version of the part that is causing the erratic ejections.
I've done this swap on a gen4 G17 and a gen3 G17L and the Lone Wolf extractor worked perfectly.
I had this problem with my g19 awhile back. Just use a pipe cleaner to get under the lip and clean it VERY well and that may take care of the issue, it did for me at least.
And if you get it straightened out, and ever shoot other firearms, be prepared at some point or another to getting smacked in the face with hot brass.
Not too long ago, the guy in the next lane to me was throwing his brass at 90 degree's and smacking me in the face every shot. When he finally got through shooting, I informed him of his technical problem, and he told me to "get over it". There were several people intervening after that, I'm usually very easy going, but I took that a little personal. When it was all said and done, and witness's spoke, he was asked to leave. He demanded his money back for his range card, but decided to keep it when he was informed that he could come back when he was a little more civil.
I once had this problem with a 1911 Government Model, 70 series. The casings also had a flat spot near the mouth o the case. Both problems were solved by installing an extended extractor. Robin
I have installed the latest 9mm ejector from Glock (it's marked 30274 as opposed to the previous marked 336) and that change has "solved" the brass to the face problems for me in all my 9mm Glocks. Cheap, easy solution...
