Ported versus Compensated?

I see a lot of people interested in ported barrels and compensated guns.

Does having a ported barrel mean that a pistol is technically compensated? The only thing I can figure out is that the compensated guns look like they have the ports further back on the barrel... maybe that changes the pressure more because the bullet passes the ports sooner?

need to watch this one.

So how do the gases get out of the slide.

The result is the same for the most part.

If the porting is under the slide, the slide will have to have holes in it. Check out Boomer's avatar, or...

Here's a video of a G23c:

I was originally curious because people were talking about putting a ported barrel in a standard Glock. I thought that would change the recoil system, but apparently it didn't.

I assume that was because the barrel was longer than normal and the ports were actually beyond the end of the frame/slide. So, the normal part of the long barrel was still not ported... so the recoil would be the same, or possibly a bit higher because of the longer barrel.
Generally a pistol with a ported barrel will also have relief cuts in the side. If you look at the C model GLOCKs you will see they have a couple of cuts in the top of the slide. This allows the gases to escape.

You can put a longer barrel in a regular slide as well ... the ports in the barrel will be in the part that sticks out of the slide. There are probably other ways to do this too but this is just what I've seen ... which is VERY little.
I have seen a Glock 19C, and I think everyone has answer my question.

So if put into a reg 19, then the barrel needs to sick out to let the gas escape or there needs to be reliefs cut in the slide.

Think I will go with a Glock "C" model

If you want a compensated/ported gun that would be my recommendation.
