Welcome to Glock.Pro and G'Day! Bloody Nora.... how difficult is it to own a Glock in AUS?Hi... Newb from Aus here...
Have stock 17a. Have Recoil spring, guiderod, connector, striker spring etc coming...

I'm in my 40s and I'm a patient person now... I would never have been able to stay committed to the process 20yrs ago.
I am kind of greatful we're still able to get handguns and have them in the home, even if the process is long and tedious. We had some low level massacres (compared to others around the world) that could have easily influenced the government to ban all handguns...
The process to get a probationary handgun licence takes 3-6 months depending on how often you attend the pistol club you must be a member of and take part in the nominated amount of shoots/matches. After you get the probationary licence you have to wait 6 months before you can apply to own a gun and you can only have 2 guns till you get your full licence.

Cheers. The fact there's a huge glock community with a couple of big forums and many dedicated glock online stores is what swayed me to glock ownership for my first gun.
There's a huge contingent of anti-glock types at my range calling us skirts for using Tupperware...

I'm slightly familiar with the laws/restrictions on you regarding ownership in Australia. Please consider posting some information for the "group" as I think the group would be fascinated with the restrictions you are required to put up with.

Are there restrictions on where you keep your pistol? What about storing ammo? Can you keep a loaded gun in your home? What about transporting your gun in your car? Can you carry your weapon in public? Those sorts of things....
Where I live, we have a one time 72 hour waiting period, after that, I can buy a handgun on the spot at many stores. It is quite legal to "open carry", that is I can wear my G17 in a holster and as long as it is not loaded, I am free to go about my business, shopping or eating in a restaurant etc, with ammo in magazines in my pocket. With a "concealed carry permit" we are able to, as it implies, carry a loaded concealed gun on our person, or in a hand bag or bum
bag.

You can have your pistol at home but it must be locked in an approved safe. Ammo must be locked up separate to gun.
No concealed carry or carrying in public in Aus and no loaded weapons in the home, although I suspect most handgun owners would have at least 1 security pistol around the house somewhere out of the safe...
No limit on the amount of guns as long as there's enough space in your safe... While transporting the pistol it either has to be in a locked container or have a trigger lock...
To obtain each and every gun you must apply for a "Permit To Acquire". Costs $30 each permit and one permit per gun. If you want to buy 10 guns, you must apply for 10 permits which is $300... After your first application for a permit which has a 28 day cooling off period, subsequent permits are granted instantly but you still have to wait for the paperwork. This permit and the paperwork that goes into the purchase or transfer of each gun is how the government tracks all legal firearms...
If you wish to own handguns with short barrels or high cap mags you can but it must be on a collectors licence. To get a standard licence or a collectors licence you need to be a member of a club...

There was a huge fear it would have been worse... The Aussie IPSC are still to get exemptions for larger calibres and hi-cap mags... We're limited to 10 round capacity and pistols with a calibre not greater than .38... But you can buy a fully functional 44magnum or 45ACP etc and pistols with hi-cap mags on a collectors licence... You just can't use them...
yeah, didn't the aussie government make everyone turn in their semi auto rifles after a school shooting there a couple years ago? i remember seeing people standing in line with their AK47's on the news waiting to give them to the authorities to be destroyed. in america, those type of authorities are called democrats
