I might have to look into something like that later on if this business my buddy and I are trying to set up takes off. I had a Blackberry before and it was ok. I know that is like comparing apples to oranges and the Blackberry is yesterday's technology but...I kinda liked it. Until the stupid little ball on them kept breaking. I went through three of them because of that

As I said in another thread, I got the Android HTC Evo from Sprint last Friday. I'm still trying to get a hand on all the stuff this thing has built right in and I have a few things that perplex me but it's a really great phone. Very cool. I have a few cons and a lot of pros with it. One thing that I really really like is how big the screen is. Video, large font for emails, etc.. is awesome. One thing I really really hate about the phone is how big it is. It looks like a TV remote on my side. LOL :)

Yea, it's good to be large when you're using it... It's bad to be large when you're carrying it...

If you like your Droid X as much as I do, check out the "Open Shot Timer" app from the market place. Its a good shot timer app to use when shooting.

New to the whole Droid thing, isn't the Android and Droid X operating the same thing? I searched the Android Market Place for Open Shot Timer and only found two similar results; A photograph timer and a timer to count the time it takes to drink a beer.

there should be a Market Place app on your phone that you can download apps straight to your phone some are free and some you have to pay for. I have also downloaded from a few web sites via my PC but you have to be cautious w/ those. I have an app that will screen all my downloads so far no problems.

sure. the android market has over 50,000 apps. just click on the little green alien widget on your home screen. you can search for any apps you like. there are some specific to certain phones, but most aren't.

i only down load the free ones. there's many great free ones :)

your motorola droid X utilizes the droid 2.2 froyo operating system (same with my htc incredible). there's a new droid OS that just came out with the droid nexus s on t-mobile's network, it's 2.3 "gingerbread".

Google created the Android cellular operating system. It is open sourced (Linux based) and free for cellular companies to develope on. Most of the cellular handset providers add a personalized shell to the Android operating system.

Verizon decided to brand their Motorola Android phones with the name, Droid... then DroidX... then Droid2. Unfortunately Verizon didn't relealize that George Lucas trademarked the name "Droid" in a little movie named Star Wars. After a large transfer of cash, Verizon has limited licensing rights for the term, Droid.

You can find out the version of Android used on your phone by clicking the Menu button, then Settings, then About phone. Android 2.2.x is the most recent released version and was called Froyo, as mentioned above.

Yeah, I'm at 2.2 on a Sprint HTC Evo Android. I really like the phone as I'm learning to use it. There are a ton of great features and obviously lots of apps. I found it odd that they didn't have a notes program on it but I found a great one that had 150,000+ positive reviews and it was free. It's working perfectly. One thing I'm currently trying to figure out is on my Blackberry, I had a sound profile that came with called Phone Only. With that selected, the cell phone would ring and the Alarm Clock would go off if it was set but no email notifications, calendar reminders etc.. I used this setting at bedtime, in case I got a call and so I could use the alarm in a hotel room.

The Android I have apparently doesn't have a way to setup that profile, at least not that I have found. I have to manually turn off notifications for each of the email accounts I have on the phone, which is currently two. Also, weirdly, yesterday afternoon my phone decided I was in Istanbul. So my clock showed it was 10 AM 01/01/2011, when it was actually 9 PM EST 12/31/2010.

I have turned off GPS as I noticed it really ate the battery up. If I turn it back on, it fixes the time. If I turn it back off, I'm back in Istanbul....
