I'm wanting to buy one of these and like both equally but want the best caliber... 40 or 45? I searched the forum and may have missed it and apologize if this is a common question. The gun is for CC self defiance, I owned a model 17 for years and loved the gun but wanted more horse power than the 9mm give.

I have a G23 and I love it.

You can convert the G23 to shoot 10mm or 9mm, and we all know that it shoot .40 S&W.
It's a smooth pistol, not as big as the G30. I would say easier concealablity.
It has the bite to along with the bark. .40 S&W is a great round. If it's good enough for LE it's good enough for me
I'm pretty sure .40 ammo less expensive than .45.
The G23 holds more rounds.
You can't go wrong with either, they are both GLOCKS. But I have have a sweet spot for the G23. Great gun.

i prefer the .45 caliber. i have more of those than 40cal. i can't see myself buying any more 40's just because they're not much cheaper than .45 anymore.

plus, there is little benefit of 40cal over modern +p+ 9mm jhp's. if you really want to take a major step up, go .45acp for the markedly larger wound channel.

the g30 is a great one too. very accurate and reliable. the g23 is the widely used LE pistol in america, so you're good to go either way. just comes down to preference.

I would go with the 23. I really don't have a big reason to argue why it is just what I would go with.

I've had both and liked the 30 better... I was much more accurate with the 30 - and like the 'thud' recoil of the 30 better than the 'snap' recoil of the 23.

I prefer the 23, just due to ownership, never fired the 30. I can only go with what I know, and I know the 23 is BADASS!!!!!!!!!!!!! You just have to get a 27 to keep the 23 from getting lonely. The accuracy of my 23 is outstanding, but like I said, I haven't compared it with the 30.

Ammo is prettey decently priced for the G23. Wally world is a good source for ammo as well as "Cheaper Than Dirt"

I want to Thank Everyone for your input, it was very helpful. This morning I choice the G22 Gen 4, one thing I liked was it fit my large hands well, like my first gen 17 did, and 2nd being a lefty the ambidextrous clip release is nice.

OH man, I have gone over that one many many times. The only way GLOCK will give us a .45 in compact is with the GAP. Its OK, but its not a ACP. I give the 37/38/39 GAP a + because they have the thinner profile but in that I have to go with a -, because the loss of round capacity.

Too bad we couldnt get GLOCK convinced to give us a compact .45ACP, could be the model 40 that they dont have.

What am I missing? The G36 is fairly small and thin with a single stack mag.

Take a look at the GAP models. You get a .45 projectile with the same grip dimensions of the 9/40 Glocks.

Not being a fan of the .40SW, I would suggest that you go with the 30 if it will fit your hand. Of course, I feel pretty well armed with 9mm.

Tried a friend's 27, didn't like hanging the little finger. If I'd added a finger rest to the magazine, it would have had the effect of enlarging the pistol.....so why not just get a 23? Went that way and no regrets, 23 is a great pistol.

I have both a 23 and 23C; both with TruGlo TFO's, as my CCW weapon. My buddy uses the G30 for his CCW. I don't think you can go wrong picking either. I just love the feel of a compact pistol in my hands compared to a subcompact. I guess it's the main reason why I don't have any subcompact Glocks in my collection.
