I've always wanted to put together a "get somewhere" bag but have never invested the time, energy, or money in the proper research. I also don't have a really good way to secure and transport such items in my current vehicles. I don't want to put together anything more than something that would get me somewhere better than where I currently am ... or could get me through 24-36 hours. The key for folks to remember is to choose your items wisely AND actually know how to use said items. Lots of people pack bags with all sorts of gear they have no idea how to use or items that have such a low likelihood of ever being used they aren't worth the space they take up or the weight they add to your pack. Someday I'll put something together. I will probably not have anything elaborate unless I find some kind of survival training to teach me what to pack and how to use them. Mine will be pretty generic.
There are a lot of survival threads that deal with BOBs and what to put in them. For me, the biggest priority is weight and the ability to carry for long distances. Actually, that's why I went from an AK to the 6.5lb. M4gery.
I have a few of the items in my vehicle but I need to actually get a pack setup. I am working now and getting an AK for a truck gun. I figure the rifle and a handful of mags, a pack, etc and I should be good to go for a day or so. I already have a full container of the 15" glow sticks from Ameriglo. If they still have them you guys should look at scooping them up at $1.00 a piece.
