I think I recieved an email from glockworld.com stating that Glock is discontinuing OD models and RTF's. I wonder if it was just a good sales pitch, or was it really true. If so I guess I'll hang on to my G30 OD. You guys hear anything?
do you still have a copy of the email that you could copy/paste? I haven't heard anything.. I would doubt it since Glock just redid teamglock.com to include the RTFs
That is the rumor that is going around. I think the RTFs are being replaced by the 4th gens and the ODs and such just never really took off very well. But again, that is what I have heard. I don't actually know.
When they first came out alot of people did call the RTF the 4th generation. Glock only called it RTF and RTF 2. The current 4th Generation is the only Glock pistol that Glock themselves actually called a Generation. I have no idea who started it but it sure caught on since even the company is now doing it
it's true. glock stopped producing OD's and gill rtf2's already. the straight serration rtf2's will only be available to LE once current inventories are exhausted.
all are still available at local shops and online at the moment, the OD are becoming a little scarce though...
Im not so sure. I saw a spread of 17,19,22,23 RTF2s in a gun mag yesterday. It was a Sept/Oct 2010 dated issue, What was weird was that the pistols were RTF2 frames, but the serrations on the slide were all straight cut instead of the gill type serrations.
The RTF and RTF2, were as you all know, never considered a generation by Glock. It seems like somebody from Glock told me the OD guns were being discontinued, but I'll have to confirm that.
The Gen4 pistols pretty much make the RTF pistols an afterthought. I expect that if a large enough contract came down the line specifying RTF/RTF2 that Glock would produce them. They were producing Gen2 pistols by contract for a rather large agency at one time even after the Gen3 guns were standard. That agency has since switch caliber and is in Gen3s.
Agency sales make up a large percentage of Glocks sales. The OD guns didn't do well at all in the LE market. A greed pistol being worn buy somebody in a brown, black/gray, or any shade of blue uniform just looks odd. I know that it sounds rediculous, but I'm serious.
They were a novelty amond the citizen market, but I'm sure Glock tracked their sales enough to know whether or not they were worth producing.
