The gun shop/range I shoot at has had a brand new Glock 17L (long slide) for several months. I usually look at it when I go in and fire off a few dry shots... It has an excellent trigger feel and seems to fit my hand perfectly... You can tell where this story is going... :D

Today I was talking to one of my buddies that works there and I asked what he thought the Hunting Manager would take for it. He said the manager doesn't usually budge on price, even though it's been there a long time. They want $639 for it and it doesn't look like they want to come down.

I'm having a tough time evaluating the price because they don't sell them any more. I know that the GSSF price for a G34 is $507 and it looks like the retail G34 is around $600.

Is that a bad price for a new G17L? I'm pretty sure it's a third generation G17L... It has the picatinny rail and the finger grips... I would probably still get a 4th gen G34 when they come out... just probably not as soon as I have been planning.

What do you guys think?

Unimportant but that's a std GLOCK rail. The Pic rail is the one that looks like it has teeth. They only offered that on some of the G21SF models.

On the price .... it really is hard to say as they are only made every few years and in very limited numbers. If I ran into one locally I might be tempted as well .... just because. Like sfguard said, "You only live once." How far out of line would the price be? Prob no more than $50 I suspect. Pocket change.

I vote get it ... then report back. If/when you decide to sell it ... call me first.

it's gen3, but it has the standard glock proprietary accessories rail, not the MSTD1913 picatinny rail like the G21 SF model.

glock only manufactures this model once in a while, and while that price does seem a little high, you never know if they'll make it again...

It's like this ... you will likely be the only one of your shooting buddies to have one if you buy it. You won't be able to shoot it in competitions unless in some kind of open/unlimited division if I understand the rules correctly. So what?

It would still be cool to own and shoot. I say get it. Heck, now I want one.

Ask and you shall recieve there Volgrad glad to help. Be sure to let us know how she does LOL. Also, jb here is one just to see what it goes for right now it is a little over $600 with 19 bids on it and 4 days to go. That in mind $639 out the door is pretty good. As your not paying shipping or a transfer fee or anything and like I said this one has over 4 days left. Who knows what it will go up to. But if nothing else it will give you a good idea of what they are going for though.

I don't know how old you are, but you don't know when it will all end. Are you current with all your debts (not paid-off, just current)? Is anyone in your house need food, clothes, medicines, etc? You know whether you can afford it.

You want it? GET IT. If, somewhere down the road, you ever have to sell it, you won't lose much.

Excellent reasoning, Vol... I try to think things out and not be impulsive, but this was too good a deal to pass up. She is currently sitting on the table next to me... No more gun shop counters for her...

I hope I don't ever need to sell it, but if I do, I will give you the first crack at it...

Thanks, sf... This is what really tipped the deal for me... It helped to see the price of the 17L you posted in the auction.

I went back today and talked to the hunting manager... I know he's had it for a long time, so I just asked what he would take for it... He sold it to me for $609 and threw in a free months range time... I shoot there a lot, so I couldn't resist any longer. I bought it and took it home with me... She's a beauty! First Glock I've had with adjustable sights....

I'd like to shoot her tomorrow, but have some obligations... I might have to wait until Monday or Tuesday.

Good thoughts...

I'm just something of a natural born tightwad... Might be too late to change now... :)

Hello. If it were me and I wanted the pistol and considering that they are not manufactured on a regular basis, I'd buy the G17L. I did buy one a while back and it has been reliable and fun to shoot.

Best and good luck.
I came to my senses...

Thanks for the link.

Glad to see I was able to have a little influence anyway. Sounds like you got a great deal on it. I don't know how much a months range time would amount too but as much as I like to shoot that could quickly add up I am sure. Congrats on the new toy.
