So, my local area decided to confuse the crap out of everyone and announce that people should celebrate Halloween tonight. I thought the idea was stupid and had no intentions of doing anything tonight. As the night started, we started getting a few trick-or-treaters, so I had my kids get their costumes on. I didn't want them to suffer if the majority of the neighborhood showed up tonight to trick or treat. Luckily, only a few kids showed up so I had the kids go undress, which of course caused an issue, and told them we'd do it when we were supposed to do it, on the 31st!

My real issue here is that Out of the 10 or so kids that came to the door, half or more were older kids, several weren't even dressed up at all. One had the guts to tell me Merry Christmas. He was wearing the typical loser pants around his butt with no belt, sideways hat and goofy pull-over. I embarrassed the crap out of him in front of his girlfriend and sent him on his way.

I also noticed that several of the kids didn't say Thank you. Manners are very important to me and this drives me nuts. What say you?

I live in the same county as does TheLaw, but I work elsewhere.

All of the mayors, the chairman of the county commission, and all of the municipal chiefs got together and decided to ask the public to do the Halloween thing tonight instead of on Sunday. They convinced the Sheriff to distribute a press release on the matter, and he has caught flack for it. He's a good guy and a great Sheriff. You can bet he won't wade into something like this again.

When the media started contacting us about it, my public statement was that we took no position and only asked that people take appropriate safety precautions whichever night they decided to participate.

Personally, I think that going to strange people's houses and begging for stuff is a bad idea; so, my household doesn't participate. My wife and children are at the Resort de Grandparent this weekend; so, I'm sitting in a dark house hoping nobody rings the doorbell. Had to put the dog up to give him some peace.

Yeah, I wasn't going to get into how they tried to make the Sheriff the scape Goat on this one. Works better for me all around. My son won his game today, putting him in the Championship game tomorrow (no 1 team versus no 2), I can still eat my steaks and crab legs tonight now, as I wasn't going to be able to if I took the kids out tonight, and I've got a gigantic bowl of candy in my kitchen! :)

I don't live in the same county as these two jokers but we did ToT there tonight as it's our old neighborhood. We did our usual tradition but it was very different this year. Not many kids out and not many houses participating. I expect we will get some ToT'ers tomorrow in our county as that is when they chose to "celebrate".

Unfortunately, my child was sick tonight and tired quickly. She crashed within 5 minutes of returning home and ate ZERO candy that I'm aware of. She's been home from school for 3 days and hasn't eaten in as many either ... not a bite.

Very odd year with Halloween falling on a Sunday. Funny thing we were having snacks at a friends house before we started (as is our tradition ... snacks and drinks before & after) and all the males in the household were armed.

I still have some old Sheriff's Office gear. I decided I would kill two birds with one stone. I dressed up like a LEO, with my reflective traffic vest I used to use. This will be safer walking around in the dark and I can wear my gun too. LOL

Just hope nobody asks to see your SO ID...
Not that dressed up. I'm not wearing any Dept Logo stuff, just BDUs with a black shirt and hat. The Sheriff Reflective vest is the only thing. I wasn't trying to impersonate anyone...

They did it here a couple of nights ago. I wasn't impressed either.

You mean office logo?
Well, technically, as old as my stuff is, it all says Department. However, someone once (or more) told me that it's no longer a Department but rather an Office and any Sheriff's Office still using Department is in the wrong. I just forget who it was that told me that. :)

It's not me. It's the Sheriffs' Association and the pesky state constitution.

When the issue of when to trick or treat was brought up by the media, most all city and county officials refused to address the issue, with one exception.
One city manager in the area said, "As far as I know, Halloween has always been on October 31st". My wife was prepared for both nights, but we had
no trick or treaters last night! I'm sure they'll be here tonight.

Went to the grocery store about 4 o'clock, came home and my wife said, " Take your mask off, we aren't doing trick or treat 'til 6:00 o'clock".
Didn't have a mask on!
Had about 15 pounds of candy. Had 15 trick or treaters!, When we shut it down at 8:00 the last little lady, who sang to us, got a mother lode of candy and
"Crazy Banz". Lights out! Happy Halloween to all!

Well tonight was a pretty good night. Had several friends over with their kids and we all headed out for trick or treating just after dark set in. About 75% of the houses participated in giving out candy/decorating their houses, etc.. so it was great for the kids. My only issue was that the pizza that was supposed to be here before we left, arrived after we left so by the time I got back to the house with the kids, all of the pizza was gone. :( At least I've got some candy to eat. :)

Happy Halloween everyone!
