Glock 17 4th Generation Springs

I'm looking to by my first Glock, a 4th generation G17. I have a question about the guide rod springs. I've heard that Glock recently came out with a newer, version 2 spring.

Does anyone know how to tell if a Glock 17 4th gen has the version 2 spring?

Look at the rear of the spring plate. On the new springs there is a 02 on it. On the older ones there is not.
I will see if I can locate a picture of what I am talking about real quick for you
Thank you!

I appreciate it...

Aw Gee fellas thanks
Is it possible to tell if a new gen 4 Glock 17 has the 02 spring without taking it apart? Will it say on the box? I don't suppose a gun shop will take it apart and let you look at the spring before you buy it.

If I were to buy a 4th gen and it turned out to have the original spring, would it be possible to get a new 02 spring assembly from Glock to replace it?
I wouldn't buy a new or used Glock without field stripping it at the store... if they don't let you look at it go somewhere else IMO.

Yes you can contact Glock in Georgia and they will send you a 02 spring if you need one. Last time I checked they were doing this free of charge.
i just got my gen3 g23 ns le trade-in and didn't know anything about glocks but having several sigs so i asked the employee to show me how to break it down and i bought it on the spot. best part, it had never been issued for $418.

are they just doing it with gen 4's?

The 02 springs will only fit in the Gen 4 guns. If something is wrong with the spring in your Gen 3 you can contact them but will probably have to buy a new one.

I went by the gun shop today and no one had heard of the version 02 guide rod springs. They did tear down the G17 in the display case and it did not have the 02 spring.

Good to know, thanks.

I talked to a "Glock Certified Armorer" in the shop and he said I would not be able to buy parts for a Glock. I would prefer to buy a G17 with a version 02 spring just to know that the gun is a newer version.
He is full of it and trying to get the mark up that he can tack onto the parts from the price he is getting them for would be my guess.
To get an 0-2 spring all you have to do is call Glock and they will mail one to you free of charge.

Just have the serial # on the Glock available.

I had significant problems with the original spring, I wouldn't buy one that didn't come with the 0-2 version.

That's good feedback, thanks!

I'm considering either a G17 or a G22. Does the Gen 4 G22 have an 02 spring update also? I realize the G22 would have totally different recoil physics, I'm just wondering if they updated the spring on the G22 also.

.
I picked up my 4th generation Glock 17 today. It did not come with the 02 version of the guide rod spring, so I want to get one.

Is there a special number to call, or just the standard number on the Glock web site?

_jd,

I went to the store a few weeks ago, and I was playing with a gen 4 and I pulled the slide back and I saw a spring... The salesman at Sportsman Warehouse said that's how the Gen 4's are, with their 2 springs.

I agree with Rob though... If a guy selling you a gun, whoever it is, is adamant about you not taking the gun apart I would shop some where else.

When I bought mine the guy handed me an.40 XDM and a G23 and let me field strip them. Talked bout the slide rails etc..

It make me suspicious if the won't let you.
