Hello,
I recently purchased a new G27 and after putting about 400rnds through it I had a guide rod assembly failure. The large spring that is on the metal sleeve that goes over the guide rod slipped. So the slide would not go all the way back forward and lock up. I was able to push the spring back over the flared lip of the sleeve but I however contacted Glock for a replacement. I did a test at the range and shot about 30rnds using the bad guide rod but the spring surprisingly did not slip back off. Is this a common problem for the subcompacts? Would I also be better off getting an aftermarket replacement such as the Lone Wolf stainless steel replacement?

I appreciate any help you can give me!

That is not a common failure but I am surprised that it made the pistol stop functioning. There are cases of people just trying to make a glock stop that the pistol got so hot the plastic rod melted and fell out. But the pistol kept working. I will post a link to one such video for you. As for the metal rod I have one in one of my Glocks. I don't see that it does anything the others don't do but then again I am not out there to try to tear up something like the people in the video were doing either. I think you just got a bad one. Put the new one in and don't worry about it.
The guide rod is noticed about 4:06 in the video this is a two part video and this is the second part. Video link:

Well, like I said not common but I didn't deny that it happens. If it makes you feel better about it by all means go with the lone wolf replacement you have found.

glocks have had issues with the dual recoil assemblies since they hit he market years ago. when they first came out, they were the round plate end that connectors with the barrel would break off, but that was resolved. nowadays you sometimes hear of the large spring popping off like yours. glock's QC has been going downhill for years, and it's not getting any better.

no worries though, it is very rare, my friend. (happens much more withe the new GEN4 assemblies)

just call glock and have them send you another for free :)
