I've had a G26 for about 8 years and it functions without problems. A friend recently purchased a new G26 and tell me that when he pulls back the slide it automatically locks open. Is this a feature or a malfunction. I haven't seen the pistol yet but plan to disassemble it on Sunday to see what's actually going on.

Mine does not automatically lock in the open position when pulled back.

It will lock back when the mag is empty remember... maybe he's doing it w/ an empty mag and not realizing why it's locking?

I have a new 34 and with an empty mag inserted, the slide does lock when pulled back.

If it is doing it with a empty mag in the gun it is normal. If he does not have a mag in then it could be one of a couple things. The release has a broken spring or is simple not installed correctly
