I've noticed a few new forum members that have stated they are new to firearms and I thought it would be a good time to inform some of the 4 rules of firearms safety, as described by Col. Jeff Cooper, and let this thread serve as a reminder for those that already know.
1. All Guns are always loaded.
2. Never let the muzzle cover anything you are not willing to destroy.
3. Keep your finger off the trigger until your sights are on the target.
4. Be sure of your target and what's behind it.
Here is a great Wiki link about gun safety for those interested in reading it. When teaching a person new to firearm how to shoot, I will always start off before they ever SEE a firearm with these 4 rules. I drill it into their head and then quiz them on it several times before a firearm is ever brought into the picture.

I'm sure that experienced firearm owners will skip right past this thread but it never hurts to take a few minutes to remind one's self of the importance of being safe with firearms.
