I realize the intent of this section was to recommend local shops. Let's face it though. Many folks don't have access to decent stores, decent selection, or decent prices. The Internet is the great equalizer.

I 100% PREFER TO SUPPORT A GOOD LOCAL BUSINESS so long as they do business fairly and are a pleasure to buy from. If they are way overpriced, not helpful, or generally bozo the clown I will gladly purchase elsewhere. Besides, the place on the Internet is "local" somewhere, right?

Here are a few Internet places I have purchased from and wholeheartedly recommend.

Ed's Public Safety
Michigan Gunslingers
Mizzou Mule Guns
Boresight Solutions
Summit Gun Brokers
SCP Firearms

I thought I had found a shop that would be worthwhile.

One Saturday, I decided to check out some pawn shops. Overall, it was a waste of time, but one shop was also a Glock Dealer. The owner was a young guy and he was very sociable. He told me to call him before making any on-line deals because he was willing to beat any fair deal. He also offered to to transfer guns for $25 a pop. Fair enough. He was a refreshing change from a lot of other dealers I have met.

While I was in the shop, I noticed some complete LMT lowers. He told me the price was $400. Not that great, but I figured he would negociate. We exchanged names and I left the shop. About a week later, I decided I was going to put another AR together.

A top-tier lower, like LMT, can run more than $400 with shipping and transfer fees, so I decided to buy locally. I called the shop.... several times at different times. No answer. So, I emailed the owner with my request and asked him to call me with a price. The next day, I got tired of waiting so I called him. "Yeah, I got your email. I haven't had time to work up a price. I'll email you later." OK, I hung up the phone and waited. No email, no call.

I bought a BCM lower from Bravo and had them ship it to my new dealer-friend (?). According to UPS, it was supposed to be delivered on 1/14. On 1/14, at 10am, I called the shop and asked what time they normally get their shipments.... "UPS doesn't get here until after 1:30." OK.

Around 1pm, BCM sent me an email to notify me that UPS had made the delivery at 10:54am. I headed over to the shop. I pulled up at approximately 2pm just as 3 guys were coming out. One guy locked the door. As I walked up, one of the trio said, "We're closed." I said, "What time do you close (it said 7pm on the door)... I drove all the way here to pick up a package." The one who had answered, rolled his eyes and unlocked the door.

I told him what I was there for. The same guy asked if I had a CCW, and I told him I did. He came back with, "It'll probably take an hour or hour and a half to get you cleared." I told him I wasn't in a hurry. I gave my IDs to another guy at the phone. He started calling. The wise-guy hands me an FFL form and told me I'd have to fill it out. No pen. He had to come back to give me one. The guy on the phone had the background check before I finished the form (hour and a half?)

By the time I left, I had an attitude. I won't go back. I'm really disappointed. Those guys just worked way too hard to lose any future sales.

That's not the right way to build a business.

First off, Melissa thanks for SGAmmo. Another one to add to my arsenal (so to speak). They had the best prices this month on 9 so I got a 1,000 -9 and 50 Ranger 124T +P ( Rangers hard to find inn Denver).
Now my gunshop is called Machine Gun Tour Specialties. They found out I worked drugs in Miami in the 80's and have played the theme song from "Miami Vice" on their big screen every time I walk in now (till I told them to stop). Good bunch of guys, real mix of HSLD, International shooters and former SWAT types. Extremely friendly and all now good friends. On-site armorer who does from full auto on down. Every type of AR/M4, suppressors, Sig, Glock, high and lower end for all budgets. No bullshit type of shop. Also a stocking dealer for Blade-Tech (my fav) and Benchmade knives. I've taught with a couple of the guys and they are the same way on the range, straight up, no bullshit, here's some options. Even got a fifty they mount on the owners Hummer. Take corporate groups out for full auto shoots, and let some of us fools tag along as range crew to stay up on full auto training.

http://www.machineguntours.com/site/ Don't go to their website if you find scantily clad women offensive.

I use SGAmmo & AmmoToGo almost exclusively for my factory ammo now. I've been using them both for a year or two without ever having one single hiccup.

Palmetto State Armory is a good place to find mags, accessories, etc. Good people.

i won't order from ammounitiontogo anymore. they screwed me on shipping charges on the last order, and never responded to my email about it. they've also sent me crushed boxes of ammo on two occasions. noticed they gouge prices on hard to find stuff too. shipping is seriously slow too.

gt and sgammo has been great though. :)

Interesting. I've never had an order ship more than 1-2 days after being placed and is always on my porch within a week ... coming UPS ground. Might have something to do with location, perhaps?

I ordered a case of Winchester Ranger NATO from them yesterday and it shipped today. But, their shipping estimator was $2.25 under what the actual shipping charges were. Is that what happended to you, Don Glock?

no, i put together the exact same orders on sgammo & ammotogo's sites, and sgammo was almost $10 cheaper on shipping. i sent an email they never responded to asking why shipping was so high. plus, they sent me some crushed boxes of ammo. pissed me off lol

Don't you love it when new guys open up 2 year old threads?

Does anyone have experience with glockstore.com? I certainly enjoy their site; many outstanding videos of disassembly/reassembly. I have an $830 order pending with them.

Slice, I have done a lot of business with Glockstore.com. I have never had a problem with an order.
Everything I have ordered has been shipped promptly. However, I have not ordered anything from
them in the past month. Things could be different with the current things happening.
BTW: A friend said Cary stands for Containment Area For Relocated Yankees. True?

Thanks Rowdie for the glockstore review, from what I can tell, they look like a solid outfit. Their homepage says they are backed up (like everyone else) and that it may take a few days to acknowledge orders. I placed my order this past Friday, I hope to hear something by Thursday.

When IBM built their main PC assembly plant down here, most carpetbaggers...erm...yankees..oops, I mean Notherners, settled into the nearby community of Cary. The IBM component of the citizenry was so huge, a road was built (Davis Dr) directly from Cary ending at the main entrance of IBM.

So, yeah, Containment Area for Relocated Yankees...plus a few locals like me.

Thanks again!

Cool! My wife' s parents are "damn yankees" but she is a Charlotte native (A rarity). I think you will enjoy dealing with the Glockstore.

No such thing as (opening up an old thread) bro. Unless it is locked people will stumble across it and add to it. The benefit of a great forum.

@Ted: That is the issue I have with most gun shop staff. Good on yah brother for holding them accountable and reopening the store. Gave a local place a second chance today, bad apples were no longer there. The staff today was excellent.

Just a non-new member posting a comment.
