Several days ago I went to the local mall @ 1030AM...Barns & Noble, for something to read (Vince Flynn, "Mitch Rapp") and a capaccino. After my trip to B&N I went to Dicks sporting goods in the mall to see if they sell handgun ammo (they do). I then went to my truck and went home. That evening 1830 I young man with his child were parked in the same area I was earlier, by Dicks. He was approched by a gun toting thug and robbed. Before gun man left he made victim take off his pants. No one harmed physically.
1) What do you do if carring in/on pants?
2) Have a child with you and carring (take off pants)...now thug knows you have a
gun.
3) I am planning on purchasing a G17 for GSSF. At present I carry Kimber CDP
Pro...not sure 100000000% gun will work flawlessly in above situation.
4) Scrap G 17 and go for G19 for GSSF and EDC?
Advice please.

Simple, aim for center of mass and don't stop firing until the thug is on the ground.
While I wasn't there and I don't like to armchair quarterback, my assumption (a s s) is that the guy was paying ZERO attention to his surroundings. Condition Yellow as it's known. I'm constantly scanning my area, watching people and being careful to not put myself into situations that might put me or my family in danger. I carry items, including my children in my left hand so my gun had is free, just in case.

Now, once a bad guy has a gun pointed at you, it's hard to do anything about it. Quick draw McGraw and all that is basically BS when there is a bad guy standing there with his gun in your face. At that point, you have to decide if giving him what he asks for is going to save your life, or if you believe he is going to cause you harm either way. If it's the second option, you have to do what you can to survive.

Sounds to me like the thug has done some time. Either State or Federal hard to tell but I would bet he has done some time.

Why do you think the robber made him take off his pants?
Could be to keep him from chasing, or humiliation of some sort to take his mind off of the situation. Might have been to scare him into thinking he was about to get bent over the car... :)

By having to have been involved in a few incidents I have noticed a lot of times Inmates when using the bathroom will remove one leg from their pants. Thus having only one leg in the pants the other free. When I inquired about this I was asked if I had ever tried to defend myself with my pants around my ankles. Getting at restricting movement of your legs. I may have misread the story though if he had them take the pants all the way off then I probably did.

When I first saw it I thought he had the guy pull his pants down around his ankles while he made his escape
