San Antonio, Texas 4:00 am approx.

Man hears a knocking at the door. Answers the door with the night chain on.

Bad guys want in and shoot a .38 spl. twice one hits man in the face and

another in his neck. They leave. Man goes to hospital.e

Home resident will live the two bad guys caught my police. They all live in

same area.

Good news was shot a weak .38 special.

Lesson learned need a stronger caliber.

That is why I would only use a .45 caliber or if I can not get that will go for a

.357 sig. (auto)!:eek::eek::eek:

I Never open the door at weird hours without my 12ga.
I installed a 2 in wide prism peep hole in my door. From the inside I can see someone at my door from at least 20 feet away. My wife and kids know that when the door bell ring day or night, I answer it when I'm home. If I'm not home, they talk through the door and don't open if they do not know the person. I'd rather offend someone my not opening the door for them than inviting a bad thing.

Im my job, I took a call where 2 males tried to do a home invasion on a house. When the home owner opened the door he had his security door locked and secured. The males pointed guns at him and he slammed the door shut. Before the suspects fled the scene, they fired three shots into the security door trying to hit the home owner. The security door stopped all 3 round. Later we found 2 45acp casings and one 40s&w casing. All rounds hit the metal framing of the door surely saving the home owner's life. His 3 kids, wife, and mother-in-law were all in the living room right by the front door when this happen.

Here in AZ, we have had cartel members dress up in police gear and conduct home invasions on rival drug dealers. Some times they get the right house and some times they get it wrong.

Some people wont even open their door for me unless they see my marked patrol vehicle in front of their house. I don't blame them, you can never be too safe now a days.

Excellent advise!

Thanks for posting it!
If anyone is interested, I picked up the prism peep hole at HomeDepot in the same place you find the normal ones. I don't remember the price but it is a good investment.

Is that the one you have?
Its not the same one that I have, but same type.
The world is a crazy place... You never open the door if you don't know who it is.
If anyone comes to the door at a crazy hour you have to be prepared for the worse. Meaning have a weapon by your side.

I heard a quote once that went something like so..............."Train like the devil is around every corner and be happy when he is not"
It kind of sounded extreme at the time, but now I think of that saying to combat complacency at work and off duty. So many people become complacent when they are in the safety of their own home, but they need to realize that at home is the one place where the wolves will be sure to find you.
Here in Fl 2-3 people approach your home, some pretending to be "church" people, some dont. Soon as the door is opened they rush your home, createing somewhat of chaos, grab everything they can and run out. There are a few cases where 2 individuals knock on the door and also pretend to be church people or door to door salesman. While they talk to you about "whatever", one of them eyes up what they can see in your home. When you are gone they then enter and get what they can. Be Very careful nowadays.

These are Gypsy scams. They happen all over. First rule is never open the door for someone you don't know.

I was the first car to respond to a call of shots fired. When I arrived I saw a man shot in the face with a .45. Come to find out there was a knock at his door, he didn't know who it was and opened the door anyway. The guy on the other side of the door shot him in the head. The Investigators later learned it was a hit put on him by his wife. The were going thorugh a divorce and she paid some gangbangers to kill him.........
I agree with blackriderhank, right before i ask who it is i rack the pump 12 gauge. i don't care who you are that is a sobering sound.

You mean the guy lived?

While I agree it can be a scary sound, don't bet your life on the sound alone.
I like that quote...People do get complacent. You're really never 100% safe, but you can be prepared.

no i wouldn't bet on the sound alone but i sure would bet on the 00 buckshot that's just a twitch away. lol
Well, I honestly believe I wouldn't by typing this right now if I had the habit of answering the door when someone knocks. (As for peepholes? I call them, 'suicide buttons'. The moment the peephole goes dark THAT is when a BG is going to start firing.)

What we do at our house is to not answer the door whenever there is an unexpected guest. We will answer the front window, instead. Whenever I do this my Glock is already in my hand. I survived a home break-in back in 1990. I've promised myself that I'm never going to be caught, 'flatfooted' like that again.

Never open a door when you can open a window instead; and, when you open that window, be ready. As the national economy continues to tighten, there's going to be more and more of this sort of home invasion/break-in type of robbery.

The world sure is changing! (Paid almost $4.00 a gallon for gas, today. $70 + dollars to fill the tank - Wow! No wonder I'm not shooting as much.)
I paid $91.34 and the pump stopped at 25 gallons. :(
