For $129 I'm thinking it's worth it as 'what the heck' experiment. Curious as to folks' experience with these. I think I'd enjoy owning a gun I don't care about abusing, scratching up, shooting and putting away dirty.

Lots of stuff I'd rather do with $129. Remember, you get what you pay for, if you're lucky.

A buddy has a compact Hi Point in 9mm and standard size in .45. Both ate heavy guns. He seems to like them, but loves his EDC Glock 21. :)

While I am not in favor of spending my money on low end weapons, I have bough one or two. I know I have either a HiPoint 380 or a 9 ... I really think it is a 9, that I got in a trade, but I never shot it.

The Jennings .22 doggie gun I put in my pocket every time I go outside cost 50 dollars when I bought it.

And THAT is what it is, a fifty dollar gun !

Get it and use it up if you can afford it ...

A better hammer than a gun. Gangster gun I would not trust. Palmetto State Armory has police Beretta 92Fs for $289.99 with free S&H. They weigh about the same, but are not toys. Or you can get a new Sig 290 for $300. Don't waste your $ on HiPoint. They eject live rounds by your head.

Good Lord! I had a half day of vacay today and walked into Cabella's.

You would have thought guns were being outlawed at the stroke of midnight, just an insane crowd. I live in the suburbs of St Louis and the Cabella's isn't located all that far from Ferguson, where all the "excitement" is going on. Rumor has the grand jury verdict coming out any day now, especially given the sharp cold hitting.

Folks of every type and color, and from the questions being asked at the gun counter, many were absolutely first time gun buyers. I wound up helping an elderly grandma type who said it took her weeks to work up the nerve to do this, and felt time was running out. She literally asked me what to get and she bought exactly that. Hands were trembling just holding it. Really hit me as to the fear she felt ... a black woman that lived in an area def more gang infested than Ferguson.

Kind of a dramatic scene really.

Took me over an hour for my number to be called. As one might imagine in this situation, $129 9mm semi autos were sold out. Was talking with the gun counter guy who also happened to be the gun store manager. When he understood I was just wanting one for grins / whatever, he convinced me I would be better served by getting a higher end airsoft gun, C02 operated that cycles the slide for the purposes of realistic, easy access practice in my basement. He does that for cheap/easy trigger time to practice draw & fire, firing from odd positions you can't do at the range, etc. Good points and I spent almost the $129 on an Umarex airsoft gun.

We'll see what the next 72 hours brings. The wife is a teacher and her principal told her the police conveyed that the gangs are posting to the effect of "we're coming for you West County (st louis suburbs, mostly caucasian). That was the first time I heard that information. Hopefully for us this will be handled well & quickly, 'cause if not, my concern is this could become the new normal in other cities.

What did the woman end up buying?

She needed cheap. I steered her to a revolver and landed on a Taurus 38 in the low $3s. Picked her out a box of that pink Hornady critical defense low recoil round. Sweet lady. It was just a very stark thing to me to see someone who had never owned a gun, who was scared of guns, deal with the act of buying one.

I owned a HiPoint 9 once upon a time, about 2 years ago, for about 3 days. Biggest piece of ...mistake I ever made.
I'm not sure but I think I paid about $200 for it. Most expensive "rock" I have ever purchased. I gave it to my son.
In two weeks he asked me to take it back! He still owns it...legally!

If I lived anywhere near Ferguson I would have spent the money on 5.56. But that's just me.

If i lived in Ferguson i would move as far as possible...we all know what will happen, no matter the grand jury decision. Folks causing problems dont care about the Brown outcome, they are only taking advantage of an opportunity to commit crimes.

Regarding Hipoint, i never owned but have shot the 380 and 45, and if all i had was $130 bucks i would get one. Its ugly, heavy, got lifetime warranty, and (at least the ones i shot) works!

Thanks all .... on one hand I'm feeling like I'm being paranoid, and on the other feeling like an announcement not to prosecute the officer will be treated by miscretants as an act of war, and by 'regular' bad people as an early Christmas looting spree, and heck, as some religious fanatic as a great opp to make headlines shooting at the police and national guard.

At the gym I was talking to a fireman, older guy pretty high up and they have ordered body armour (which they have not received) and are under direction to NOT stop at any fire that does not have a police unit there. He told me the police are expecting "ambush" calls for help. They supposedly will stand off and observe situations and then call them in for someone to determine if it's real, worth the risk to engage the situation.

I can def tell you I will be carrying my G26 and extra mag either on me or in my car if this thing catches on fire. IF ANYTHING takes place at a school in the suburbs, I'm keeping the family home (wife is a teacher, my twin sons are hs seniors). IF ANYTHING takes place at a grocery store, I'm doing the shopping. And so on and so on. Yuck.

I wish you well Patton. If you have an AR you might want to relocate that to your vehicle when you go out. I would.
