Bug Out or Shelter In Place

Our nearest relatives are a 6 hr drive away in the best of circumstances.

Getting out of any metropolitan area would be difficult at best.

We have a month of food, water, and other preps ready and expect to shelter-in-place.

How about you?

Is bugging out an option?

fmfdocsci,
My people are an hour away in Illinois. I live in a concret and brick building, but have alot of windows. I rent so digging in is not an option although 2 people could defend in a pinch. Also back room has concret walls no windows and only one way in. Depends whats thrown at you in that situation. I think I would head for the deep woods as fast as I could.
We're staying right where are..everyone else is planning on coming here. We live in the country already close by a lake and wooded area. All they have to bring is themselves ( and some other goodies if they want).

Lots of people in fact just about everyone I know think going to the country would be best. Problem is everyone think going to the country would be best. I have had alot of training and know from training and experience that staying in the city would be best for us. It would be dangerous as gangs of people desperate to survive would be out but the same will be true maybe even more so in the country.

I know how to obtain fuel sources, I know how to purify water, scavenge for food BEFORE supplies run out, navigate while remaining difficult to detect, plenty of guns and ammo I am digging in.
One of the things I would wish for would be a house built with brick as opposed to the vinyl side stuff that is used almost exclusively in our area.

Almost any type of round will go right through most of the houses around here, including ours.
We are getting ready to move outto a new house in the country (thank God) so my plans will be changing slightly from bug out to stay put. Even then there will be plans to be able to get to a friends house about 4 miles away that is a little more secluded just in case we cant stay home.

The house we're moving into sets off the road and has a 300 acre woods behind it. easily enough resources to survive on.
I can do either. House has a full basement. I can take guns and supplies with us or stay put. It would depend on what or whom we would be tryin to evade that would determin which we would do. We live close enough to the mountains that we could disappear if need be.
I am staying put. If they show up here, they eat lead for lunch.
I live in El Paso Texas. There are really 2 roads in here and they are both Interstate 10. There is another highway headed north but that goes right by Ft. Bliss and would be roadblocked by the Army within an hour of any kind of breakdown. Not to protect us, but to protect themselves. That is understandable.

To the south of us is the lovely suburban paradise that is Ciudad Juarez. The most dangerous city in the world. Within city limits, 1/4 of the residents here are illegal immigrants and 80% of the overall population is Hispanic. I am a white boy who votes Republican, supports tough immigration enforcement and dispises amnesty in any form. So lets just say, I am not on the top 10 Christmas Card list of many of my neighbors.

So what do I do? I try and look for signs of a collapse or civil unrest before it gets here. I watch the markets, the gas prices, inflation, the nit-wits in D.C., foriegn and domestic events of note etc.

Should I see events start to take place, I am out of here. This is not the place to be. Nor is any city or population center. I know too many people who think that hunkering down in the middle of suburbia is a great idea. I do not. I don't trust people even when civilization is "civil". If food, shelter and gas are running out I trust them even less. I will run North a few states back to high country where there is 40,000 acres waiting for me. I'll play games on my turf.

So, if you are in the middle of the city, GTFO! Don't become meat for the meat eaters.

I live in a suburban area, but have a concrete block house...

That might not be good enough...
I live in Albuquerque.. I would bug out no questions asked.

I have friends that live there also and like you they will be outa there! Sooner if able to get out..they are not happy there at all!!!
My parents live about an hour away so if I were able to I would go to their place since its pretty much off the beaten path.. But if its just a small localized event then I will probably stay here to protect my homestead.
I live in Albuquerque as well, I think Bugging out would be more appropriate, pending we could actually get out. My in-laws live about 3.5 hours away in a little town on the TX/NM border. Being close to TX would be smart I think, HAHA, we could just shoot everybody from there. My family lives in Florida, so not sure a 25 hour bugout trip would be smart.
I live in St. Petersburg, Florida, so I'm kind of trapped on this long peninsula. I'm not sure what I would/will do yet. I guess it depends on the circumstances of the event...

My house is pretty secure, so I would probably try to stick it out here if possible...

I watched that movie. It wasn't quite what I expected but it was pretty good none the less. I was looking for more survival type stuff and it ended up being more of a drama/sad movie. Not that I expected everyone to be dancing and singing. :)

i know! that movie was seriously depressing lol
I'm in south Florida, with a GPS. I'll head north until I run out of gas. Then I'll hoof it in the woods. I am prepared. If I stay here, there are a lot of old people to eat. Hell, nobody lives forever.
