I recently purchased my first Glock! I am new to this, so please excuse my dumb questions. It is a Glock 19. My question is this: I bought some ammo at Walmart that says Winchester Luger on it. Will this ammo work since my pistol is not a Luger? In addition, It says that it is for the range, but will it work against an intruder as well? Again, I am new to this and I know my questions may be elementary to most of you, so please bear with me. Thanks!

9x19 NATO
9mm Luger
And 9mm parabellum

Are all the same thing and will work.

The only thing you have to be careful of is no to get 9mm makarov also known as 9x18.

Good choic in blaster! In my opinion the g19 is the best all around defense pistol eve made

Thanks for the info Keith! It was a little confusing. Now that you've cleared it up, I'll know what to get. I have yet to fire it, but I like the feel of it in my hand. I originally got it for protection but would like to get the real feel of it at a range.

For protection I would not use the range only ammo. Find yourself a hollowpoint round I prefer something in the 124grain area. There are lots of different manufacturers out there. Everyone, will try to tell you what they think is best and the list could stretch for pages and still never have the same answer twice.

Good hollowpoint from a reputable manufacturer and it will be ok. I say hollowpoint for SD for numerous reasons. It mushrooms out flater than a round nose bullet does causing more damage passing through the intruder. It is also not as likely to pass all the way through the intruder to maybe hit someone innocent behind them someplace.

That is also before you even get into secondary injuries to the intruder because of the energy transfer from the bullet not going all the way through. WWB (winchester white box) is great for the range but when it comes to protecting yourself and your family don't skimp because of a few dollars. Get some good hollowpoints and be done with it

Here is a link to some video of some people testing different rounds. There is lots of info there on different rounds look around and find something you like. Some of the tests.....well, some people's idea of a test isn't in my opinion but just look around and sort it out for yourself. Find something you like and go with it. Also, every now and then use you SD ammo on the range. Stay familiar with it. It will most likely shoot just a little different than the WWB will.
